Günter Kochan
Günter Kochan was a German classical composer. His compositions include cantatas, film scores, orchestral music, songs, symphonies and music for radio dramas.Life and career
Kochan was born in Luckau, in the Province of Brandenburg, on 2 October 1930. He attended the Hochschule für Musik Berlin in Charlottenburg beginning in 1946, and subsequently studied at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" in East Berlin, East Germany, where he was a Meisterschüler of Hanns Eisler.
Kochan was inducted into the East German Academy of Arts, Berlin in 1965 and, from 1977 to 1982, served as Vice President of the Union of Composers and Musicologists of the GDR. He was four times recipient of the National Prize of the German Democratic Republic.
Kochan died in Neuruppin on 22 February 2009, aged 78, following a long illness. He was survived by his wife of 56 years.
