Galway North-East (Dáil constituency)


Galway North-East was a parliamentary constituency represented in Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Irish parliament or Oireachtas from 1969 to 1977. The constituency elected 3 deputies to the Dáil, using the single transferable vote form of proportional representation.

History and boundaries

The constituency was created under the Electoral Act 1969 for the 1969 general election to Dáil Éireann. It was abolished under the Electoral Act 1974, with effect from the 1977 general election.

Following the death of Fianna Fáil TD Michael F. Kitt, a by-election was held on 4 March 1975. The seat was won by the Fianna Fáil candidate Michael P. Kitt, son of the deceased TD.
