Gemilang Coachworks


Gemilang Coachworks is a bus bodybuilder in Malaysia, specializing in city, intercity, coach and school bus bodies for various bus chassis.

History

Gemilang Coachworks was founded on 23 September 1989, assembling wooden buses and trucks. In 1999, it entered a partnership with SKS Coachbuilders and became the licence holder for Alusuisse products in Asia.
In Australia, it has a joint venture with Northcoast Bus & Coach. Prior to that, Gemilang had assembled Volgren body kits and BCI had also imported buses from Gemilang.
Gemilang has exported over 3,000 buses to Australia, Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, Mexico, North Korea, New Zealand, Qatar, Singapore, Syria, Taiwan and Vietnam. It entered the Australian market in 1999 exporting of over 150 units. Notable orders include 1,101 Scania K230UB buses for SBS Transit, 734 MAN NL323F for SMRT Buses of Singapore and 790 Scania K250UB and K270UB buses for Rapid Bus of Malaysia. Another notable example is the MAN Lion's City DD L concept bus, which had its bodywork fitted by Gemilang on the MAN ND323F chassis for the Land Transport Authority of Singapore.

Products

Currently, Gemilang Coachworks offers various aluminium bus bodywork designs and configurations that could be customized to meet different manufacturers, operators and regional requirements. Over the years, Gemilang had supplied bodies for Ankai, BYD, Daewoo, Dennis, GreenPower Bus, Hino, Hyundai, King Long, MAN, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan Diesel, Scania, Sksbus, Sunlong, Volvo and Yutong bus chassis.
