In October 2017, key figures of the Identitarian movement met in London in efforts to target the United Kingdom. The United Kingdom and Ireland branch was launched in late October 2017 after a banner was unfurled on Westminster Bridge reading "Defend London, Stop Islamisation". On 9 March 2018, Martin Sellner and his fiancée Brittany Pettibone were barred from entering the UK. The reason stated was that their presence was "not conducive to the public good." Prior to the ban, Martin Sellner intended to deliver a speech to the Young Independence party, though they cancelled the event citing supposed threats of violence from the far-left. He intended to deliver his speech at Speakers' Corner in Hyde park prior to being detained and deported. In June 2018, Tore Rasmussen, a Norwegian activist who had previously been denied entry to the United Kingdom, was working in the Republic of Ireland to establish a local branch of Generation Identity. Generation Identity pages were censored on a range of platforms in June 2018, sites including Facebook and Twitter censore material about Generation Identity. Eventually Generation Identity pages on Facebook were removed from the platform in June 2018, however they still remain on Twitter. In June 2018 Martin Sellner was stopped at customs from entering the United Kingdom again to attend the Generation Identity European Conference in London. This then led to well-known right-wing activist Tommy Robinson reading out his speech at Speakers Corner.
Ideology
The Identitarian Movement bases itself on a form of the Nouvelle Droite known as Identitarianism. Generation Identity focuses on its opposition to Islamisation, The Great Replacement and Globalisation as its 'Three Key Points'. Works from Nouvelle Droite authors such as Guillaume Faye and Alain De Benoist are used by Generation Identity. The Identitarian Movement can find its ideological origins in the New Right Groupement de recherche et d'études pour la civilisation européenne. Identitarianism proposes Ethnopluralism, the belief that individual ethnocultural groups should remain in historical homelands. Identitarians also take the Archeofuturist concept of a Europe of 100 Flags from authors such as Yann Fouéré and Guillaume Faye. is listed as ideological inspiration of the Identitarian Movement in the UK. The Identitarian Movement also proposes Regionalism. It argues for the preservation of a Regional, National, and Civilizational Identity.
