George Boyne


George Boyne is principal and vice-chancellor of the University of Aberdeen. He joined the university on 1 August, 2018 and was officially installed in his role on 16 January, 2019.
Originally from Aberdeen, Boyne attended King Street Primary School and Aberdeen Grammar School, and is a double graduate of the University of Aberdeen.
He has spent the majority of his academic career in Wales and prior to joining the University of Aberdeen, Boyne was pro vice-chancellor of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences and a professor of public sector management at Cardiff University. He was also a member of the university executive board and was previously dean of Cardiff University's business school.

Research

During his career, Boyne has published eight books and over 140 articles in academic journals. His main research interest is the explanation and evaluation of organisational performance in the public sector.
