George Haywood
George Haywood was an English professional footballer who played as a centre forward. He made 60 appearances and scored 23 goals in the Football League, playing for Birmingham, Chesterfield and Southport.Haywood was born in Coleorton, Leicestershire. He played for Whitwick Imperial and for Gresley Rovers before joining First Division club Birmingham as a professional in November 1928. He scored twice on his Birmingham debut, in a 3–0 defeat of Manchester City in December 1929, and proved an adequate deputy for England international Joe Bradford, but never established himself as a first-team regular. He went on to spend brief periods with Chesterfield and Southport in the Third Division North and for Cradley Heath in the Birmingham & District League before retiring in 1939. He died in Coalville, Leicestershire, in 1992 at the age of 85.
