George Howson (priest)


George John Howson was an Anglican archdeacon.
Howson's father John Howson was Dean of Chester from 1867 to 1885. He was educated at Liverpool College; Haileybury College; and Trinity College, Cambridge. He was ordained in 1878. After a curacy in Maidstone he held incumbencies in Overton, Crewe, Salford, Crumpsall, Southport and Woolton. He was Archdeacon of Warrington from 1916 to 1933; and then of Liverpool from 1933 to 1934.
His son, also George Howson, was the founder and chairman of the Royal British Legion Poppy Factory. His younger brother James Howson was Archdeacon of Craven from 1928 to 1934.
