George Worthington (bishop)


George Worthington was the second bishop of Nebraska in The Episcopal Church.

Worthington was born in Massachusetts and as a youth moved to New York City. He worked as a bookkeeper for his uncle and later studied at Hobart College and then the General Seminary of the Episcopal Church. In 1868 he became rector of St. John's Episcoapl Church in Detroit. He remained there until 1885 when appointed bishop in Nebraska. While in Detroit he was at times the acting bishop of Michigan. Shortly before his death he was made bishop for the Episcopal Church in Europe and had taken up residence in France.
