Ghent, West Virginia


Ghent is a census-designated place in Raleigh County in the U.S. state of West Virginia. As of the 2010 census, its population was 457.

History

The community's name commemorates the Treaty of Ghent. On January 30, 2007, a Little General Store on 2964 Flat Top Road U.S. Route 19 exploded, killing four people and injuring several others, near the Winterplace Ski Resort.

Climate

The climate in this area has mild differences between highs and lows, and there is adequate rainfall year-round. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Ghent has a marine west coast climate, abbreviated "Cfb" on climate maps.
