Glenmore Beach

Glenmore Beach is a seaside village in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It is part of the Hibiscus Coast in the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast.

Geography

Glenmore Beach forms part of four areas on the lower end of KwaZulu-Natal’s Hibiscus Coast, namely Leisure Bay, Port Edward, Munster, and Glenmore Beach.

Beach

Interestingly Glenmore Beach is the swimming and surfing bay in Munster, which is what often causes the confusion between Glenmore Beach and Munster, and why they tend to be referred to interchangeably. Glenmore Beach is flanked by two rivers - the Mkhandandlovu to the north, and the Itongasi River to the south, which divides the area into two - Glenmore Beach to the south and Munster to the north.
Shark nets are present at Glenmore Beach to ensure safe swimming and life guards are on duty during the holiday season. Surfing is good, however, there are rocks and it’s best to surf in the morning before the wind picks up.

Fishing

Fishing is popular from Pulpit Rock, located across the Itongasi River, regarded as one of the best game fishing spots along this section of the coast.

Marine Ecosystems

From April to October is when the Bottle Nose and Common dolphin, as well as the Humpback and Southern Right Whales, frequent these waters. The annual Sardine Run, which beached in Glenmore Bay in 2000 and 2001, attracts schools of dolphin that need to be seen to be believed.

Attractions

Apart from its beautiful beaches, another attraction in Glenmore Beach is the Nightingale Shipwreck which ran aground here in 1933. The ship’s boiler and the cylinder can still be seen on the rocks at low tide. Another attraction is the Glenmore 4x4 track has over 30 obstacles and offers hours of fun.
Nearby attractions include the Wild Coast Sun, Mzamba Fossils and Petrified Forest trail, Umtamvuna Nature Reserve, Mpenjati Nature Reserve and Mac Banana Lifestyle Centre.
