God of War (film)


God of War is a 2017 Chinese historical war film directed by Gordon Chan and starring Vincent Zhao, Sammo Hung, and Yasuaki Kurata. It was released in the United States in Mandarin and Japanese with English subtitles on June 2, 2017. The plot is based on general Qi Jiguang's suppression of the wokou pirates during the Ming dynasty.

Plot

In 1557, Japanese samurai warriors involved in wokou piracy terrorized and took control of the coastline villages in China. The Chinese General Yu Dayou with the help of General Qi Jiguang had to create strategic methods and weapons to defeat the pirates.
To prepare for battle against the ruthless pirates, General Qi convinces his leader to allow him to train a new army. General Qi then recruits and trains some brave villagers to become his new army.
