Gooty


Gooty is a town in Anantapur district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is the headquarters of Gooty mandal in Anantapur revenue division. The town is renowned for the Gooty hill fort.

Geography

Gooty is located at, at a distance of 52 km from Anantapur. It has an average elevation of 345 metres.
Earlier, Gooty was in the rule of Mysore kingdom under Tipu Sultan. After the fourth Anglo-Mysore war in which Tipu was killed by British, Gooty was given to the Nizam of Hyderabad, because the Nizam, along with the Marathas, helped the English in their campaign against Tipu Sultan.

Gooty railway station is located on the Guntakal-Chennai Egmore section, which is part of MumbaiChennai railway route, it is home to one of the 5 diesel locomotive sheds in the South Central Railways. Gooty Junction railway station is situated on the BangaloreHyderabad National Highway 7 or 44, Ankola – Bellary – Gooty National Highway NH 63, Gulbarga – Gooty National Highway. Diesel Loco Shed, Gooty is home to diesel locomotives of the ALCO WDG2A, WDG3A, WDM3A and WDM3D classes.

Education

The primary and secondary school education is imparted by government, aided and private schools, under the School Education Department of the state.
