Government College, Malappuram


Government College, Malappuram, is a general degree college located in Malappuram, Kerala. It was established in the year 1972. The college is affiliated with Calicut University. This college offers different courses in arts, commerce and science. The student activist Rinshad Reera was a student in this college.

Student Activisms

In february 2019 Kerala police arrested two students for allegedly sticking posters on the Kashmir issue inside their college campus. The duo has been booked under section 124 sedition, following which several human right activists have voiced their opposition against the police action.
The arrested students, Rinshad Reera and Faris, belong to the B.Com and Islamic History department of the Government College Malappuram. Both of them are part of the Radical Students Forum , a political group in the college which is vocal about several issues, and had allegedly stuck posters condemning violence against Kashmiri students after the Pulwama terror attack which killed 49 CRPF personnel.
Human rights organisations and Activists had taken a strong stand against the arrest of the students. They released a joint statement signed by the group of activists, lawyers, journalists demanding immediate release of the Student Activists.IFJ Opposed the Far-right medias presenting students as Pro-Maoist. Philippines based Human right organisation Karapatan, Manipur folk band Imphal Talkies, Baloch politician Naela Quadri Baloch, Activist GROW Vasu and some student's groups from JNU, JMI, HCU had expressed their solidarity towards the students.However on their first trail, Judicial First Class Magistrate Court Malappuram granded them bail.
