Grande Prairie Athletics
The Grande Prairie Athletics is a Canadian Senior Ice Hockey team located in the city of Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada that plays in the North Peace Hockey League.
History
The Grande Prairie Athletics were officially named in the early 1960s but were originally part of the SPHL along with the Hythe Mustangs, Dawson Creek Canucks, Spirit River Rangers and Fort St. John Flyers. Throughout the 1970s the SPHL tried interlocking schedules with other leagues such as the Cariboo and North Peace Hockey League which included other Northern Alberta towns like Manning, Valleyview, Peace River, and High Prairie.Having folded for the second time in ten years in the 1990s, the Athletics eventually became a part of the North Peace Hockey League along with other SPHL teams like the Rangers, Canucks, and Flyers.
It was announced for the 2015-2016 season the Athletics would be taking a year's leave of absence.
