Greenfield Community College, Newton Aycliffe


Greenfield Community College is a secondary school on the outskirts of Newton Aycliffe. It was opened in 1974 and it has been visited by Tony Blair on 30 June 2000 when it was awarded specialist status as an Arts and Science College.
Greenfield provides a range of opportunities in and out of the classroom. The strength of the provision was noted by OFSTED, who rated the school as Requires Improvement in May 2017 a further review took place in December 2017.
In 2015, the school expanded following the closure of another local school Sunnydale Comprehensive in nearby Shildon. The school now operates in both towns maintaining a wide curriculum on both sites. this is achieved by the movement of both staff and students. year 10 and 11 attend most of their lessons in Newton Aycliffe.
Uniform consists of Tie, white shirt, Blazer, dress trousers or skirt, smart black shoes. Jumpers are optional. P.E kit is a green T-shirt with the school logo to be worn with either black shorts or leggings, trainers white white soles
Blazers to be worn all year round, rumours escalated around parents early 2018 with the warm weather regarding wearing blazers indoors. With request students can remove blazer for lessons but MUST be worn in between when walking around the school to next lesson or lunch and break times.
Greenfield are strict regarding the school uniform.
GCSE results for class of 2018 have improved yet again. These GCSE results have been achieved amidst huge reorganisation of the national examination system and 2018 was always going to be the time that significant national change was at its peak. The effort, dedication and commitment from staff and students at Greenfield Community College should be credited and has been realised in the successful improved results. The school achieved English GCSE 4+ at 69% and Maths GCSE 4+ at 69%. 75% of students achieved grade 7+ in Dance, 20% achieved 7+ in German and seven students achieved the illusive grade 9 in English Literature whilst four students achieved the same grade in English Language and six at grade 9 in RE.
They have removed the colour system of Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue and Purple which has been in place for many years and have devised a new system renaming them Mountain, River, Forest and Lake.
Each of these all have separate sub groups which are used for T4S
A SENCO team are also within the school dealing with children with additional needs. The school also has adaptations within the site for pupils with disabilities.
The schools have a progress and guidance team who do amazing work and work well with the pupils parents.
