Grether's Pastilles

Grether's Pastilles is a brand of Swiss glycerin-based, pastille candies that are currently distributed by the Swiss conglomerate Doetsch Grether LTD. Grether's come in four different flavors: Blackcurrant/Blackcurrant Sugar Free, Redcurrant Sugar Free, Elderflower Sugar Free, and Blueberry Sugar Free. The pastilles date back to 1910 when the pastilles were being produced in London, England by the Allen and Hanbury Company. They were known as Allenbury's Blackcurrent Pastilles. In 1974, the London plant was relocated to Basel, Switzerland. These pastilles can be found in certain specialty shops, convenience stores, and apothecary shops as they are not mass-produced to retailers. They are similar in taste, size and texture to Läkerol lozenges but become softer and chewier after they are saturated with water.
