Grey-hooded babbler
The grey-hooded babbler is a babbler species in the family Timaliidae. It is native to Borneo and inhabits forests and shrublands up to altitude. It is listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.
It is dark grey with a chestnut-coloured plumage, is long and weighs. It feeds on Coleoptera beetles, ants, Hemiptera bugs and fruits. Up to four individuals have been observed building a single nest with leaves.
Timalia bicolor was the scientific name proposed by Edward Blyth in 1865 for an ashy gray babbler with rufous wings, mantle and tail.
It was later placed in the genus Stachyris, but since 2016 is recognised as a Stachyridopsis species.
