Grupo de Acción Rápida
The Grupo de Acción Rápida is an elite unit of the Spanish Civil Guard specialized in counter-terrorism.
Tracing its origins to the Unidad Antiterrorista Rural founded around 1978, the GAR was properly created in 1980. It is based in Logroño. Initially aimed to counter ETA, since 1998 it has re-oriented towards international deployments, taking part in missions in Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Haiti and the Central African Republic.
