Gunblade NY

Gunblade NY is a light gun shooting game developed by Sega for the Model 2 arcade machine and was released in 1995 in North America and 1996 in Japan. The game was re-released alongside L.A. Machine Guns for the Wii in 2010 as part of the Sega Arcade Hits Pack.

Gameplay

Gunblade NY is a game in which the player must save New York from terrorists.

Reception

In Japan, Game Machine listed Gunblade NY on their June 1, 1996 issue as being the most-successful dedicated arcade game of the year. Next Generation rated the game four stars out of five, and stated that "Gunblade NY is a good, fun Sega shooter, something gamers have almost come to expect from the Japanese giant. But it's Namco that has set the shooting genre on fire with Time Crisis, and until Virtual Cop 3 appears Gunblade NY may help to lower the flames, but it certainly won't put them out."

Reviews

There is a sequel, L.A. Machineguns: Rage of the Machines a similar 3D on-rails fixed-gun shooter developed by Sega's AM3 division and released by Sega for arcades on Sega Model 3 hardware on December 1998. Instead of attacking from a helicopter, players drive hoverbikes throughout the West Coast of the United States.
It was later bundled with Gunblade NY as part of the 2010 Wii compilation Arcade Hits Pack: Gunblade NY & LA Machineguns. Both ports make use of the Wii's motion controls and support the Wii Zapper peripheral.
