Gymnasiade


The Gymnasiade, or World Gymnasiade, is an international multi-sport event which is organised by the International School Sport Federation. It is the largest event among many other sport events held by the ISF.
The 17th edition of ISF Gymnasiade was organised by Morocco in 2018 with more than 3000 young athletes representing 58 countries. It was the biggest Gymnasiade so far and the first ever International Multisport event for youth held in Africa.
There are 12 obligatory sport competitions at Gymnasiade with 3 optional and 2 additional, hosts sports. The obligatory sports are:
Archery, athletics, Boxing, Chess, Fencing, Gymnastics, Judo, Karate, Swimming, Taekwondo, Tennis and Wrestling. The 2018 edition also held competitions in Petanque, Road cycling, Surfing and Golf.
Aligned with the philosophy of the organisation, only pupils between the ages of 13 and 18 are eligible to compete.
The first edition of the Gymnasiade was held in 1974 in Wiesbaden, Germany and it featured solely gymnastics, athletics and swimming competitions. Since then, 17 editions of Gymnasiade had been held with the most recent in 2018 and hosted by Morocco.
The next edition will be held in Jinjiang, China in 2020.

All demonstration sports have been cancelled from the competition programme of the Gymnasiade 2009 because of the lack of entries from the registered countries. Because of did not obtain the minimum of ten nations entries required to proceed with the
organisation of the demonstration sports. This decision was taken in agreement with the ISF. This Games have only 4 sport.

The 2013 Gymnasiade will bring together athletes that are from 14 to 17 years old and registered in an educational institution. These athletes will be representing 40 different countries and will be competing in 8 different sports:
  1. aerobic, artistic and rhythmic gymnastics
  2. athletics
  3. swimming
  4. judo
  5. karate
  6. chess

2016 Summer Games

16th Gymnasiade was held in Trabzon, Turkey, from 11–18 July 2016. It was held in 10 sports with school sport athletes from 25 countries with 2500 athletes. Present in the previous edition, 5 countries decided to boycott this edition due to the to 2016 Turkish coup d'état attempt .

2018 Winter Games

From 5 to 10 February the city of Grenoble in France. During 5 days, 500 young athletes coming from 19 countries will participate in this multi winter sports event.

Germany, England, Argentina, France, Hungary, Russia, Republic of Belarus, Austria, Belgium, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Scotland, Chile, Turkey, Spain, Estonia and Ukraine.

18th Gymnasiade was held in Marrakech, Morocco, between 2–9 May 2018. It was held in 18 sports with 4000 school sport athletes.
