Habibur Rahman (police officer)


Habibur Rahman is a Bangladeshi police officer. He is currently Deputy Inspector General of Bangladesh Police. He currently holds office of Dhaka Range DIG at Bangladesh police, Dhaka Before it he was DIG of Administration and Discipline at Police Headquarters, Dhaka. He is also the General secretary of Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation and Vice president of International Kabaddi Federation. Beside the responsibility of police, he is also known for his special activities and working for underprivileged people of the country, especially trans women and water gypsies.

Early life

Rahman was born on 22 April 1967 at Chandra Dighalia, Gopalganj District, East Pakistan, Pakistan. He got primary education at Govt. Mollapara Primary School. Rahman obtained masters and honors degree from Institute of Education and Research of University of Dhaka. Later, he entered into Bangladesh Civil Service Examination.

Career

Rahman joined in Bangladesh Police as Assistant Superintendent of Police through 17th BCS Examination. After getting one year basic training from Bangladesh Police Academy, Sardah, Rajshahi he entered in professional policing. He was Superintendent of Police at Dhaka District Police. On 24 February 2016, he was promoted to Additional Deputy Inspector General. He served as the Additional DIG of Personnel Management-1 at Police Headquarter in Fulbaria, Dhaka. He served as the DIG of Admin & Discipline at police Headquarters Dhaka.
At present he is the Deputy Inspector General of Dhaka Range Police. Rahman was awarded the Bangladesh Police Medal two times and President Police Medal. He was awarded the IGP's Exemplary Good Services Badge during the 2017 police week.
More than 50 thousands of Savar's Bede people's life was changed by Habib. When he was the superintendent of police of Dhaka district, he took steps to bring them in proper life and not to do any job by which they are neglected by society, And still now helping them to overcome. He started building roads, mosques, Eidgah, and schools for trans women and water gypsies of Porabari, Kalyanpur and Baktarpur areas of Savar upazila under Dhaka district. He provided funding for the marriage ceremony for destitute couple in 2018.
He supported members of the transgender community starting their business ventures through opening beauty parlors. He already arranged training for them at abroad and sent some transgender women to abroad for well training.
He also founded an organization called Uttaran Foundation in 2017. Though it has informally been active since 2013. Habib also established a boutique house named “Uttaran Fashion” for underprivileged people.
Rahman is the founder and president of Bangladesh Police Liberation War Museum at Razarbagh Police Lines, Dhaka. He wrote about the contribution of Bangladesh Police in the Bangladesh Liberation war called 'Muktijuddhe Prothom Protirodh'.
Habib is the founder of Police Blood Bank at Dhaka. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police started the Police Blood Bank on 12 December 2012 as part of social responsibility and he has contributed a lot for establishing this novel institution. Not only police, anyone can donate blood here and also collect the needed blood from here.
He is now General Secretary of Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation. On 29 August 2018, he was elected Vice-President of the Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation. Habib is the producer of 'Deep Bay of Bengal', a Bengali language Bangladeshi movie based on ecological life on water, especially pollution of ecological system of the Bay of Bengal.
