Half diminished scale

The half diminished scale is a seven-note musical scale. It is more commonly known as the Locrian 2 scale, a name that avoids confusion with the diminished scale and the half-diminished seventh chord. It is the sixth mode of the ascending form of the melodic minor scale.

In the key of C, the half-diminished scale built on D is associated with Dm75, which functions as a ii7 chord in minor.
The Locrian 2 scale is commonly used in jazz and some rock. It is commonly practiced by such neoclassical metal guitarists Michael Romeo, and such jazz pianists as Oscar Peterson and Jonah Cristall-Clarke.
