Heidi Larson


Heidi J. Larson is an anthropologist and the founding director of the Vaccine Confidence Project. Larson headed Global Immunisation Communication at UNICEF.

Education and career

Heidi Larson studied anthropology at the University of California, and earned a Ph.D. in 1990.
She is Professor of Anthropology, Risk and Decision Science, at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, and Director of The Vaccine Confidence Project. Her research focus is on public confidence in vaccines.
She is Director of European Initiatives at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation and a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Global Health at the University of Washington.

Personal life

Professor Larson is married to the Belgian virologist Peter Piot.
