Henry Iba Award The Henry Iba Award was established in 1959 to recognize the best college basketball coach of the year by the United States Basketball Writers Association . Five nominees are presented and the individual with the most votes receives the award, which is presented in conjunction with the Final Four . The award is named for Henry Iba, who coached at Oklahoma State from 1934 to 1970 . Iba won the NCAA College Championship in 1945 and 1946 and coached the U.S. Olympic Teams to two gold medals in 1964 and 1968 . The award is presented at the Oscar Robertson Trophy Breakfast on the Friday before the Final Four. Legendary UCLA Bruins coach John Wooden has the most all–time selections with seven. Of the seven other coaches with multiple Henry Iba Awards, only Virginia Cavaliers coach Tony Bennett has received it more than twice. The school with the second–most winners is Ohio State , which has had two coaches win a total of three awards.Key Winners Season Coach School Record Postseason result 1958–59 Marquette 1959–60 California 1960–61 Ohio State 1961–62 Ohio State 1962–63 Cincinnati 1963–64 UCLA ' 1964–65 Princeton 1965–66 Kentucky 1966–67 UCLA ' 1967–68 Houston 1968–69 UCLA 29-1 NCAA Champions 1969–70 UCLA ' 1970–71 UCLA ' 1971–72 UCLA ' 1972–73 UCLA ' 1973–74 NC State 1974–75 Indiana 1975–76 Michigan 1976–77 Arkansas 1977–78 DePaul 1978–79 North Carolina 1979–80 DePaul 1980–81 Oregon State1981–82 Georgetown 1982–83 St. John's 1983–84 Purdue 1984–85 St. John's 1985–86 Bradley 1986–87 Temple 1987–88 Temple 1988–89 Indiana 1989–90 Kansas 1990–91 Ohio State 1991–92 Tulane 1992–93 Vanderbilt 1993–94 Saint Louis 1994–95 Oklahoma 1995–96 Purdue 1996–97 ' Minnesota ' 1997–98 Michigan State 1998–99 Auburn 1999–00 Iowa State2000–01 Boston College 2001–02 Pittsburgh 2002–03 Kentucky 2003–04 Saint Joseph's 2004–05 Illinois 2005–06 North Carolina 2006–07 Washington State 2007–08 Drake 2008–09 Kansas 2009–10 Syracuse 2010–11 Notre Dame 2011–12 Missouri 2012–13 Miami 2013–14 Wichita State 2014–15 Virginia 2015–16 Xavier 2016–17 Gonzaga 2017–18 Virginia 2018–19 Tennessee NCAA Sweet 16 2019–20 Dayton No tournament
Footnotes Due to the massive numbers—and extreme severity of—NCAA violations that had surfaced, Clem Haskins and the Minnesota men's basketball season records and awards were nullified, giving them a 0–0 record and no official recognition for having gotten to the 1997 Final Four.
