Hermann Masius


Hermann Masius was a German educator who was a native of Trebnitz.
He studied theology in Halle, and later was director of a gymnasium in Halberstadt. In 1860 he became director of a Realschule in Dresden, and in 1862 was appointed professor of pedagogy and director of the educational seminar at Leipzig.
Among his numerous publications was a work on "nature studies" called Naturstudien. It was published over several editions, and acclaimed for its blending of natural and cultural history from an aesthetic standpoint. Another noted work of his was Die gesamten Naturwissenschaften, of which he collaborated with other academic professionals.
