Hijken


Hijken is a town in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Midden-Drenthe, and lies about 13 km south of Assen, the province capital of Drenthe.
In 2001, the town of Hijken had 322 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 0.12 km², and contained 117 residences.
The statistical area "Hijken", which can also include the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 890.
The town is also known for its surrounding Neanderthal settlements. Late Neolithic Hat graves have been discovered dating to a Bronze Age settlement near Hijken.
