Hillsborough Stakes


The Hillsborough Stakes is an American Thoroughbred horse race run annually in mid-March at Tampa Bay Downs in Oldsmar, Florida. The race is open to fillies and mares, four years of age and older. Raced on turf, since 2004 it has been contested at a distance of miles, prior to which it was run at miles. The purse is currently $225,000.
The Hillsborough became a Grade III event in 2004, and was elevated to Grade II status in 2016.
The winner of the 2012 Hillsborough, Zagora, won the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf and was voted an Eclipse Award in her category. Tepin, a two-time Eclipse Award winner, set a new course record when winning the race in 2016.
