Hindustan Institute of Engineering Technology is located at St. Thomas Mount, Chennai. In 2011 it has been moved to Serapanachery, Kanchipuram District, reachable from Tambaram train station. Campus has two colleges, HIET Polytechnic college and HIET Aviation college. HIET Polytechnic college provides Diploma Courses in engineering. HIET Aviation college provides Aircraft Maintenance Engineering AME course, Bachelor of Science B.Sc in AME and Avionics Courses. The institute has trained over 50,000 technicians and engineers since established.
History
Hindustan Institute of Engineering Technology was established in Chennai in 1966 in response to the need for non-formal technical education. Hindustan Institute of Engineering Technology is run by the Hindustan Engineering Training Centre Educational society, which is registered as a Technical Education Society under the Societies Act, XXI of 1860. The institute is approved by the Director General of Civil Aviation, Government of India, for conducting Aircraft Maintenance Engineering course and Approved by All India Council for Technical Education, Government of India, New Delhi and Affiliated to the Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Tamil Nadu for conducting Diploma courses.
Milestone
1968 – Starting of HIET. Initially the following non formal courses were started viz Motor Vehicle Technology, Radio & TV Engineering, Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration etc. 1970 – Starting of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering course. Starting of AMSE courses in the disciplines of Mechanical, Civil and Electrical Engineering. AMIE, A.M.Ae.SI, Grad IETE courses which are equivalent to B.E. Degree. 1979 – Starting of Diploma in Automobile Engineering Course 1996 – Starting of Technician Engineering course equivalent to DME 1999 – Starting of DETE course 2003 – Starting of Diploma in Computer Engineering 2006 – Starting of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering – Radio & Navigation Engineering 2008 – Starting of AME and Avionics 2011 – Starting of Diploma in Civil Engineering 2013 – Starting of Diploma in Electrical & Electronics Engineering Starting of B.Sc. Head Office, Guindy
Administrative office is located in Guindy, Chennai, India. Building is on the main road of GST Road, National Highway of connecting India North to South. Also under the Kathipara flyover which is the main landmark of the city.
College, Serapanachery
The campus is situated south western suburb of Chennai, India. The college is located in Serapanachery near Oragadam very close to State highway number 48. It is easily reachable from Tambaram railway station which is the biggest railway hub of connecting southern part of India.
HIET Polytechnic college is a part of the campus. Over 9220 Sq meter covered area in an 8.6 acre campus consisting of lecture halls, central library, seminar halls, computer centers, administrative offices, various workshops & Laboratories.

Sports
HIET assigns top priority to sports activities and encourages students who are sportspersons by providing them scholarship for studies. The college has excellent state-of-the-art infrastructure for sports and provides professional coaching in sports to students. Apart from scholarships the college also completely sponsors the tournament expenditure of students.
Hostels and boarding
The two campus hostels, Mustang in Padappai and Orient in Guindy are taken care by HIET Management; they provide food as well as accommodations.
Transport
The college is on the Tambaram – Padappai – Oragadam National Highway accessible by public transport system like buses/share autos. There are twelve college buses operating and are available for students covering all parts of the city.
