Howraghat


Howraghat is a town in the Karbi Anglong district of India's state of Assam. It is home to many indigenous communities mainly Karbi, Dimasa Kachari, Tiwa Kachari, Bodo Kachari, etc.

Etymology

The name "Howraghat" came from Karbi words 'Hawar Kehat' meaning crossing border. The word became distorted later as Howraghat.

Demographics

Howraghat has an average literacy rate of 80%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 85%, and female literacy is 73%.
