Hughes, Northern Territory
Hughes is an outer rural locality of Darwin. The name of the locality derived from the war-time airfield, the Hughes Airfield, which was named after W A Hughes who was the Director of Mines in the Northern Territory before the Second World War.
Hughes Airfield was recently resurfaced by the Northern Territory Government and is sometimes used by water-bombing aircraft during bushfire season.
