Ilford North (UK Parliament constituency) Ilford North is a constituency created in 1945 and represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2015 by Wes Streeting , a Labour Party MP.History The seat was created for the 1945 general election , from the northern part of the former Ilford seat.Constituency profile All districts are suburban but interspersed with many parks and a few small nature reserves and are connected to Central London by the Central line which forms an end loop around Hainault tube station . The vast majority of Ilford North's housing is houses of terraced or semi-detached type having typically small and narrow gardens. As at the 2011 census, mid-rise apartments in modest landscaped grounds form the bulk of the type of flats in the seat as opposed to tower blocks .Political history The seat has fluctuated since 1945 between Labour and Conservative representation in the House of Commons . The 2015 result made the seat the 8th narrowest win of Labour's 232 seats by percentage of majority, and in first past the post a 1.2% majority would be considered marginal . The 2017 election saw an 8.5% swing to Labour, increasing their margin in the seat to 9,639 votes, the largest majority for a Labour MP in the seat's history. Labour’s majority was almost halved during the 2019 general election .Boundaries 1945–1950 : The Municipal Borough of Ilford wards of Barkingside, North Hainault, Seven Kings , and South Hainault.1950–1974 : The Municipal Borough of Ilford wards of Barkingside, Clayhall, Fairlop, North Hainault, Seven Kings, and South Hainault.1974–1983 : The London Borough of Redbridge wards of Aldborough, Barkingside, Chadwell, Fairlop, Hainault, and Seven Kings.1983–1997 : As above plus Fullwell1997–present : Aldborough, Barkingside, Bridge, Clayhall, Fairlop, Fullwell, Hainault, and Roding.Members of Parliament Election results Elections in the 2010s Elections in the 2000s Elections in the 1980s Elections in the 1970s Election box winning candidate with party link| |party = Conservative Party |candidate = Vivian Bendall |votes = 22,548 |percentage = 50.31 |change = +9.43 Election box candidate with party link| |party = Labour Party |candidate = Tessa Jowell |votes = 17,051 |percentage = 38.04 |change = –4.44 Election box candidate with party link| |party = Liberal Party |candidate = John Freeman |votes = 2,248 |percentage = 5.02 |change = –11.62 Election box candidate with party link| |party = National Front |candidate = John Hughes |votes = 2,126 |percentage = 4.74 |change = N/A Election box candidate| |party = Conservative Independent Democrat |candidate =Tom Iremonger |votes = 671 |percentage = 1.50 |change = N/A Election box candidate| |party = East London People's Front |candidate = Carole Rowe |votes = 89 |percentage = 0.20 |change = N/A Election box candidate with party link| |party = New Britain Party |candidate = Alfred Burr |votes = 48 |percentage = 0.11 |change = N/A Election box candidate| |party = Democratic Monarchist, Public Safety , White Resident |candidate = Bill Boaks |votes = 38 |percentage = 0.08 |change = N/A Election box majority| |votes = 5,497 |percentage = 12.3 |change = N/A Election box turnout| |votes = 44,819 |percentage = 69.1 |change = -5.36 Election box registered electors| |reg. electors = Election box gain with party link| |winner = Conservative Party |loser = Labour Party |swing = Election box endElection box begin | |title=General election October 1974: Ilford NorthElection box winning candidate with party link| |party = Labour Party |candidate = Millie Miller |votes = 20,621 |percentage = 42.48 |change = +4.48 Election box candidate with party link| |party = Conservative Party |candidate =Tom Iremonger |votes = 19,843 |percentage = 40.88 |change = +2.32 Election box candidate with party link| |party = Liberal Party |candidate = Gareth Wilson |votes = 8,080 |percentage = 16.64 |change = -6.80 Election box majority| |votes = 778 |percentage = 1.60 |change = N/A Election box turnout| |votes = 48,544 |percentage = 74.46 |change = -5.15 Election box registered electors| |reg. electors = 65,195 Election box gain with party link| |winner = Labour Party |loser = Conservative Party |swing = Election box endElection box begin | |title=General election February 1974: Ilford North Election box winning candidate with party link| |party = Conservative Party |candidate =Tom Iremonger |votes = 19,843 |percentage = 38.56 |change = -13.91 Election box candidate with party link| |party = Labour Party |candidate = Millie Miller |votes = 19,558 |percentage = 38.00 |change = +1.79 Election box candidate with party link| |party = Liberal Party |candidate = Gareth Wilson |votes = 12,063 |percentage = 23.44 |change = +12.12 Election box majority| |votes = 285 |percentage = 0.55 |change = -15.71 Election box turnout| |votes = 51,464 |percentage = 79.61 |change = +11.01 Election box registered electors| |reg. electors = 64,649 Election box hold with party link| |winner = Conservative Party |swing = Election box endElection box begin | |title=General election 1970: Ilford North Election box winning candidate with party link| |party = Conservative Party |candidate =Tom Iremonger |votes = 25,142 |percentage = 52.47 |change = +6.0 Election box candidate with party link| |party = Labour Co-operative |candidate =Christopher Sewell |votes = 17,352 |percentage = 36.21 |change = -3.71 Election box candidate with party link| |party = Liberal Party |candidate = Gareth Wilson |votes = 5,425 |percentage = 11.32 |change = -2.29 Election box majority| |votes = 7,790 |percentage = 16.26 |change = +9.71 Election box turnout| |votes = 47,919 |percentage = 68.60 |change = -8.13 Election box registered electors| |reg. electors = 69,852 Election box hold with party link| |winner = Conservative Party |swing = Election box endElections in the 1960s Elections in the 1950s Elections in the 1940s
