On 18 March 2013, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India introduced a bill in the Parliament to establish 20 new Indian Institute of Information Technology's in different parts of the Country. As per the bill, MHRD will establish the 20 new IIITs under the Public Private Partnership mode partnering with respective state governments and industry partners. The industry partners are Tata Consultancy Services, Oil India, Srei Infrastructure Finance, Assam Electronics Development Corp, Novatium and Medhassu eSolutions.
Foundation
IIIT Guwahati was set up in 2013. The foundation stone for campus of IIIT Guwahati was unveiled in the presence of Hon'ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi.
Academics
IIITG offers B.Tech degree in Computer Science and Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering. Admission to all undergraduate programmes are on the basis of the All India Rank in the Joint Entrance Examination . From 2015 onwards students enrolled in the research Doctoral Programme after either completing a B.Tech degree or an M.Tech one. IIIT Guwahati has also started an MTech Programme for CSE and ECE graduates from 2018. IIIT Guwahati houses the following departments:
Placement cell provides a platform for the final year students to get job offers and also looks after the internships for the pre-final year students. The first batch completed its programme in May 2017, which consist mainly two Department ECE and CSE of B.Tech program. In the recently conducted placement session, several firms like Amazon, Directi, Smartprix, Nagarro, TCS, Zaloni, IBM Global services, FR Technology, Mettl etc., have participated and a number of students have been recruited. Placement Session of 2018-19-IIIT Guwahati is having a successful placement session during 2018-19. Some of the companies where our students got placed are: TCS, AlgomaMills, Cohesity, Wipro, TechJect, IBM, Adapt Ideation, Nayan, Distill, Datakalp, StatWig, Antares, EdgeTensor, Infotrust, Cerelabs, HumbleSchool, Vassar, Nagarro, ThoughtWorks, Guavus, Aptude, etc. The selection processes for some companies are still going on. The universities where students have been selected for higher studies are University of New York, and National University of Science, Singapore. CSE % placed : 83% ECE % placed : 46% CSE Average CTC : 12.75 lpa ECE Average CTC : 5.19 lpa All the above are for offers made for domestic locations. 1 international offer from CSE for 56 lpa.
