Indian Super League Golden Boot
The Indian Super League Golden Boot is an annual association football award presented to the leading goal scorer in the Indian Super League, India's premier division.
The award in 2014 was sponsored by Maruti Suzuki. The award was known as Alto K10 Indian Super League Golden Boot.
The Indian Super League was founded in 2014. Earlier the tournament only had 8 teams. From the 4th edition of the indian super league, the tournament had 10 teams.
The first Indian Super League golden boot was won by Brazilian Elano Blumer of Chennaiyin FC in 2014 edition of the Super League he finished as the top scorer with 8 goals in 11 appearances.
The 2019-20 Indian Super League season saw the most controversial and tight battle for the Golden Boot. Kerala Blasters FC's captain Bartholomew Ogbeche, ATK forward Roy Krishna and Chennaiyin's striker Nerijus Valskis finished with 15 goals a piece. Some critics claimed that Ogbeche deserved the award as scored his 15 goal tally in just 16 appearances compared to the 21 appearances of Roy Krishna and 20 appearances of Valskis. But the league committee decided to take the number of assists into account as the number of goals were tied. So that put Ogbeche out of the race for the golden boot as he finished with only 1 assist. Still both Roy Krishna and Valskis were tied with 6 assists each. Then taking the game time into consideration Valskis became the first Lithuanian striker to win the Indian Super League Golden Boot. The Indian football fans strongly had their own opinion, they believed it had to shared between the three prolific strikers.
