Infante Miguel, Duke of Viseu
Dom Miguel, Duke of Viseu is the brother of Duarte Pio, Duke of Braganza, Head of the defunct Portuguese Royal Family. Miguel is fourth in the line of succession to the former Portuguese throne.
The Duke of Viseu is a noted patron of the arts and painter, and the founder and sponsor of the annual Luso-Brazilian Week of Aldravist Art, held interchangeably between Portugal and Brazil. He is also an active member in various orders of chivalry, notably the Sovereign Military Order of Malta and the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George.Early life
Miguel Gabriel Rafael Xavier Teresa Maria Felix was born on 3 December 1946, in Bern, Switzerland, to Duarte Nuno, Duke of Braganza, the pretender to the defunct throne of Portugal, and Maria Francisca of Orléans-Braganza. His name includes Miguel Gabriel Rafael, a naming tradition of the House of Braganza that honors the three archangels in the Catholic Church.
In 1950, the Portuguese Laws of Banishment were repealed and Infante Miguel's family was permitted to return to Portugal, which they did in 1952.Education
