Institute for Ecumenical Research
The Institute for Ecumenical Research in Strasbourg is supported by the Lutheran Foundation for Intercofessional Research - Lutheran World Federation - and is an independent institution within the Lutheran World Federation entrusted with interconfessional research and dialogue. It was founded in 1965 by the Lutheran World Federation and is headed by Jennifer Wasmuth. The Institute is independent of the member churches of the Lutheran World Federation.
The Institute's events, which focus on interdenominational dialogue, serve both to clarify the position of the interior Lutheran churches and to prepare for dialogues with other confessions. In addition to permanently employed research professors, there are also associated professors, mostly from the Protestant Theological Faculty of the University of Strasbourg. Among them are currently Matthieu Arnold, André Birmelé and Elisabeth Parmentier; former professors were Marc Lienhard, Günther Gassmann, Carter Lindberg, Per Lønning and Gunther Wenz.
There is a scientific cooperation with the Ecumenical Institute of the University of Tübingen and the Confessional Institute of the Evangelical Federation in Bensheim in the Südwestbund. There are contacts to ecumenical staff units in Geneva.Directors
