International Federation of Spirits Producers

The International Federation of Spirits Producers is the trade association for the worldwide spirits industry's protection against counterfeit produce.

History

Spirits are alcoholic drinks that include distilled alcohol, such as gin, liqueurs, vodka, rum, whisky, and brandy. They are high value products. Counterfeit products are sold by subterfuge by re-filling branded spirits bottles.
The IFSP was set up to combat the counterfeiting of spirits around the world, which is a big industry.

Structure

It is situated on Holborn Viaduct in the City of London near City Thameslink railway station.

Membership

It includes the nine largest spirits companies -
Member companies produce around 300 million cases of spirits per year - around a third of the worldwide total.
Managing Director: David Francis

Function

It works in over thirty countries around the world to protect consumers against counterfeit spirits.
In the UK it works largely with local council trading standards officers and environmental health officers.
