Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board

The Department of Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation is an economic development program of the State of Minnesota, designed to advance growth on Minnesota's Iron Range. Founded in 1941, the board was tasked with using proceeds from taconite mining to spur broader development in the region.
The IRRRB has worked to invest in business development, workforce, community development, mineland reclamation and tourism. The board's goal is to help the region transition from one dependent on mining to one with a diverse economy. The board is headquartered in Eveleth, Minnesota.
The board's commissioner is appointed by the sitting governor and serves as a member of the governor's cabinet. The current commissioner is Mark Phillips and the current deputy commissioner is Jason Metsa.
