Jack Hollins


Jack Hollins is a fictional character from the BBC soap opera Doctors, portrayed by Nicolas Woodman. Jack first appeared on 4 August 2009, and left Doctors on 21 September 2012. He returned for brief stints in 2013 and 2014.

Storylines

In September 2009, Jack was kidnapped accidentally with Dr. Heston Carter and Dr. Zara Carmichael. Jack & Zara were locked in a caravan and decided to have sex. They continued the relationship even though they nearly got caught by staff of the Mill and Jack's Mum, Karen. In November 2009, After sex Jack caught Zara injecting a mysterious substance in her bathroom. Jack was surprised at Zara and thought it was drugs. But it actually was Testosterone for Zara as she was going through an early menopause. Towards the end of November and early December 2009 Rob found out about Zara's relationship with Jack but Rob told him not to tell Karen, but Imogen spilled the beans and Karen got very angry. She was angry at Rob for not telling her and when she confronted Zara they had a fight at Reception at the Mill.
In late January 2010 Jack's mum, Karen Hollins, was approached by Gerry Cutler who was the father of Lewis Cutler, Jack's University friend. He asked if Lewis, his son, could stay at their house over the Easter holidays as he was going away. Karen accepted but unfortunately, unaware to Karen, Rob, Immie & Jack, Lewis had a serious mental problem. As the week continued it came clear that there was problems with Lewis but he covered his tracks very easily. Imogen, Jack's sister was the first to notice it, she tried to warn her mother, father & brother, but they ignored her. Jack said she was being 'pathetic'. Jack noticed something was a bit strange with Lewis but kept it to himself. Then Karen noticed a mark in her kitchen table, a knife mark. She knew it was Lewis. Imogen then realised that her art project was tampered with, by Lewis. She told her mum and they got worried. Jack was called to a fake interview at the University, Karen was very worried and went to the University, trying to find Jack. Amongst the hostages were, Ellie, Sia and Ned. Lewis was armed with a gun and shot hostage Sia. Karen tried to talk Lewis out of killing them all, it didn't work. Karen's husband, Rob came running up with a colleague and Dr. Simon Bond. Rob was called down but Simon stayed to help injured Sia. After a scream Rob came running back up and charged in. After a struggle, Karen got the gun off Lewis, who was then shot and killed by a police officer. Karen, Rob, Jack & Immie all burnt Immie's art work the following day.
Jack then starts attending University at Letherbridge to study a property degree. However, when it came out that Karen terminated a late age pregnancy, which leads to separation from Rob, Jack's grades start to deteriorate. His course tutor becomes concerned for him. They discuss the situation with the tutor explaining to Jack that it is his parents' problem and that he needs to set his own priorities. She then agrees to give him an extension. This conversation leads Jack to start taking responsibility for himself. When Immie starts to invite her friends over to the house, Jack controls the situation on their parents' behalf. When one of Immie's friends starts to make advances on Jack he rejects her, instead concentrating on finishing his coursework. He decides to leave in September 2012. In 2013 Karen loses her memory following a head injury and Jack goes to see visit her. He returns in June 2014 to spend some quality time with his family. He again returns for Karen's wedding in December 2014.

Development

Jack is the oldest child and only son to, Sergeant Rob Hollins who works at Letherbridge Police station and, Karen Hollins, Senior Receptionist at the Mill Health Centre. He is the older brother by two years to, Imogen. Jack is currently a student at the University of Letherbridge studying Law.
On 3 September 2012, it was confirmed that cast members Charlie Clemmow who plays Imogen Hollins and Woodman would be departing. Woodman's departure scenes aired on 21 September 2012.
On 26 October 2013, it was reported by Digital Spy that Woodman would reprise his role as Jack in what was described as a "part of a dramatic new storyline". Speaking of his return, Woodman commented: "It was really nice to work with Jan and Chris again and to be back in the Doctors family."

Reception

Woodman was nominated for "Best Daytime Star" in the 2011 Inside Soap Awards. He was nominated for "sexiest male" at the 2012 British Soap Awards.
