Jack York
Jack York was a Canadian slave in the Western District who supposedly broke into the cabin of a white woman named Ruth Tufflemier and allegedly raped her. He was tried for burglary, not rape, before Justice William Dummer Powell. He was found guilty and sentenced to death, but the sentence was never carried out. York eventually escaped and disappeared.
