Jackie Torrens


Jackie Torrens is a Canadian award-winning writer, actress, documentary-maker and journalist, best known for her CBC radio and television appearances, and for acting roles in the television series Made in Canada the OUTtv mini-series, Sex & Violence and Andrea Dorfman's feature film Heartbeat. With producer Jessica Brown, she is a co-partner in Peep Media Inc. Their documentaries include Edge of East, My Week On Welfare & Small Town Show Biz: 2 Dreams From A Harbourtown, all broadcast on CBC & the Documentary Channel. Their latest doc, Bernie Langille Wants To Know Who Killed Bernie Langille, is for Bravofactual and examines the mysterious death of a military electrician in 1968. Her docs for Telltale Productions include Free Reins for CBC's POV Docs and the upcoming feature doc Radical Age. All documentaries are directed & written by Jackie Torrens. Other projects include a lead role on Thom Fitzgerald's Sex and Violence. She won an Actra Best Supporting Actress award for her work in the feature film Across the Line & has been nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy for her work on Andrea Dorfman's feature film Heartbeat.
She is a regular contributor for CBC Radio. Radio documentaries include The Poet Laureate of Youth Now Radio, Camp Mini Ha Ha, What's Haunting You? & The Collector.
Her play Live! Nude! Animal! was filmed for the Bravo! Channel. Her monologues have been published in Rattling the Stage, as well as She Speaks!, edited by Judith Thompson. Several of her plays have been nominated for Robert Merritt awards.
