Jacopo da Sellaio Jacopo da Sellaio , sometimes known as Jacopo di Arcangel , was an eclectic Italian painter from the early Renaissance , who painted in the style of the Florentine School . He was a pupil of Fra' Filippo Lippi , with his contemporary Sandro Botticelli , who became a lasting influence on him. It is noted that by 1460, he had joined the Confraternity of Saint Luke in Florence , and in 1473, he is documented to have shared a studio with Filippo di Giuliano . A number of da Sellaio's paintings for decorative chests survive in collections, such as his Story of Cupid and Psyche commissioned for a 15th-century Florentine marriage and depicting the ancient romance of the marriage of the mortal princess, Psyche , to the god of love , Cupid . He executed another wedding cassone , The Nerli Cassone , in collaboration with Zanobi di Domenico and Biagio d'Antonio in 1472. His piece now in the Uffizi Gallery , The Banquet of Ahasuerus , was also painted with two other panels, including Esther before Ahasuerus for a cassoni . Da Sellaio's small devotional pieces were well known , several of which depicted Saint Jerome and Saint John the Baptist . He also painted religious works for the church of San Lucia dei Magnoli and the church of San Frediano , both in Florence.Selected works 15th century – Saint Jerome in the Wilderness , tempera on panel 15th century – The Story of Cupid and Psyche , tempera with gold on wood cassone panel 15th century – Orpheus and Eurydice , 1472 – The Nerli Cassone , wood cassone decorated with paintings 1480s – The Reconciliation of the Romans and Sabines , tempera and gold on panel 1480-1490 - Orpheus Playing Among the Animals - tempera on wood - 1480s – The Adoration of the Magi , tempera on wood panel 1480 – Saint John the Baptist , oil on panel 1480 – Saint Jerome and Saint Francis , tempera on wood transferred to masonite 1480/85 – Votive Altarpiece: The Trinity, the Virgin, St. John and Donors , tempera on panel 1485 – Saint John the Baptist , tempera on canvas 1485 – Madonna and Child with the Infant, Saint John the Baptist and Attending Angel , oil on panel 1485 – The Legend of Brutus and Portia , oil on panel c.1485 - Christ with Instruments of the Passion , tempera on panel 1490 – The Banquet of Ahasuerus , tempera on panel 1493 – Madonna and Child with Saints Lucy, Sebastian, John the Baptist and Catherine , tempera on panel
