James A. Gallagher


James A. Gallagher was a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives from Pennsylvania.

Formative years

James A. Gallagher was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on January 16, 1869. He attended the public schools and Philadelphia's Pierce Business College. Professionally, he began work in merchandise warehousing and transportation in 1886, and was also employed in the banking industry.

Political career

Gallagher was elected to congress as a Republican in 1942. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1944, he was elected to congress again in 1946. He was then also an unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1948.

Death and interment

Following his death in Philadelphia on December 8, 1957, he was interred at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Yeadon, Pennsylvania.
