James Hodgson (merchant)


James Hodgson was a British merchant in the textile industry, co-founder of Hodgson, Robinson & Co. He maintained commercial ties with Buenos Aires in times of Juan Manuel de Rosas.

Biography

James Hodgson was born in Manchester, England. He arrived in port of Buenos Aires in January 1818, as an agent of a British home in Buenos Aires. In 1830 he was associated with John Robinson his former accountant. Hodgson, Robinson & Co had operates in Buenos Aires between 1830s and 1844. The company had imported merchandise from Manchester, and sent hides, tallow, bullion and other Argentine products to Britain.
James Hodgson resided in Buenos Aires by 26 years and maintained commercial ties in the Argentina until his death.
