James Merry (actor)


James Merry is a British actor best known for his appearances in the British daytime soap opera Doctors and children's TV show Waffle The Wonder Dog

Early Life and Training

The only son of Christina and Michael Merry, he began acting at the age of 10 with the Central Junior Television Workshop in his native Birmingham. At the age of 20 he moved to Guildford, Surrey where he attended the Guildford School of Acting completing a BA degree in Acting and received the accolade of "Experts Choice" in The Stage newspaper for his showcase performances in 2005.
He attended Bishop Vesey's Grammar School in Sutton Coldfield, is a lifelong Aston Villa fan and lives in Guildford, Surrey with his partner and their two sons. As a teenager he played youth team football for Tamworth FC and Telford United FC but was not considered good enough to go further.

Career

As a child he appeared in the television series The Demon Headmaster and presented articles on Saturday morning children's show Scratchy and Co. He is best known for his portrayal of bad boy Danny Ogbourne in the BBC soap opera Doctors. He has also appeared in the ITV drama Where the Heart Is., ITV sitcom Birds of a Feather and ITV drama Endeavour, the Inspector Morse prequel, playing Percy Malleson.
He has appeared in numerous television commercials around the world including Nokia, Heineken, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Burger King, Vodafone, Phones4U, Nationwide Building Society, Amstel, Swiffer, Depot, Hennig-Olsen Iskremfabrikk, Perfetti Van Melle, Coop, Fujuka, Nested, Andrex and Algemeen Dagblad.
On stage he played the title role in Oliver! as a child at the Alexandra Theatre, Birmingham. In 2007 he appeared in a production of The Glass Tower, directed by Jessica Swale at The Pleasance Theatre, Islington.He In 2009 he completed a nationwide theatre tour of Jane Austen's Emma with Heartbreak Productions, taking the role of George Knightley.
From 2018 he has appeared in CBeebies drama comedy Waffle The Wonder Dog, playing Simon Brooklyn-Bell.
