Jamie Bennett (businessman)


Jamieson Robert Forrest Bennett is a business entrepreneur from Aberdeen, Scotland.
Jamie was born in December 1971 and grew up in Aberdeenshire where he attended Turriff Academy before going onto study Engineering at the University of Aberdeen, graduating with a Bachelor of Engineering.
He started his first venture Atlas Interactive Limited, an oil and gas technology business at the age of just 23. Atlas pioneered the use of e-learning within the oil and gas industry and became one of the largest providers of online learning programmes internationally, with hundreds of thousands of users across 35 countries. The company created a diagnostic safety e-learning programme "Minimum Industry Safety Training" which is used by most personnel working in the UK offshore oil and gas sector. Bennett sold Atlas in 2007 in a multimillion-pound deal and left the business in 2009 establishing Enerco Group, an entrepreneurial investment company focused on oil and gas technology businesses.
From 2010 onwards, Enerco Group has created and invested in a number of oil and gas related companies including Operational Excellence Group Ltd, Mintra Training Portal Ltd and Mintra Training Portal A.S. Mintra was sold for an undisclosed figure in December 2014 to a private equity firm at which time Enerco Group held a major interest. Within this period Enerco Group invested £3 million in the redevelopment of an office complex in the west end of Aberdeen to accommodate its growing companies.
Bennett is currently Chairman and CEO of OPEX Group. OPEX works with oil and gas operating companies to reduce lifting costs using a powerful combination of predictive technologies, data science and multi-discipline oil and gas expertise. OPEX's predictive Analysis Service X-PAS, provides data-driven insights which enable customers to eliminate production loss, cut maintenance costs and improve safety. OPEX recently won the Oil and Gas UK award for Business Innovation and have been shortlisted for several other awards including the global Energy Institute Awards. Bennett is connected in numerous businesses, largely in technology for the oil and gas industry.
Bennett was inaugural winner of the Elevator 'Inspirational Mentor of the Year' award in 2018, this was recognition for the support he provides to young aspiring business owners on their path to success by mentoring, challenging and sharing his expertise and knowledge. He is actively involved in supporting the local community through his work with the charity Denis Law Legacy Trust, Streetsport. The charity aims to reduce instances of youth crime and anti-social behaviors through sport and is currently engaged with over 8,000 participants across a range of age groups to contribute to healthier and safer communities.
