Jane Ohlmeyer


Jane Helen Ohlmeyer,, is a Northern Irish historian and academic, specialising in early modern Irish and British history. She was born in Zambia and grew up in Belfast from 1969 onwards. Since 2003, she has been the Erasmus Smith's Professor of Modern History at Trinity College, Dublin. She has also served as Chair of the Irish Research Council since 2015. She was President of the Irish Historical Society from 2003 to 2005, and Vice-Provost for Global Relations at TCD from 2011 to 2014. In 2011, she ran unsuccessfully for the position of Provost of Trinity College Dublin, subsequently citing Frances P. Ruane's run in 2001 as inspiration and "a crack in the glass ceiling".. In 2015, she was elected Director of the Long Room Hub, an interdisciplinary centre at Trinity College Dublin focused on the humanities. In this role, Ohlmeyer was involved in many public-facing events, including the successful 'Behind the Headlines' series of events.

Honours

In 2011, Ohlmeyer was elected a Member of the Royal Irish Academy, the premier all-Ireland learned society for the sciences and humanities.
