Jari Silomäki

Jari Silomäki is a Finnish artist born in Parkano, Finland, in 1975. He lives and works in Helsinki and is part of The Helsinki School represented by Persons Projects, Berlin.
The photographer finds his roots in classical documentary photography, which he then poetically twists to create his own personal narrative that expands the realms of fact and fiction. Investigating everyday life from several angles, he manages to connect private thoughts with the outside world, mixing the local and the global. The diary-like sequences of his ongoing series My Weather Diary serve as telling interludes in a personal narrative. Those captured photographic moments carry their own storyline that he then joins with notes in calligraphy which he wrote by hand on top of the completed print: this hand-written text adds both a nostalgic tone and a special value to what was said. Along with the location, he describes a mood, the day's most memorable political world news or an event from his personal life.
Silomäki gives the viewer both a possibility of sharing his private experiences in the landscape where he was that day and a possibility of a collective experience by registering world-political events that the viewer remembers, too.
