Jawali, Maharashtra


Jawali, Maharashtra is a small village located in the Mahadeva Mountain range of Phaltan Tehsil of the Satara district of the Indian state of Maharashtra. The village is also known as Siddhanathachi Jawali / Jaoli / Javli.
After the death of Sambhaji, there was disturbance in Swarajya. On 26th December 1697,Sardar Manajirao More along with Mansingh More,Krushnajirao More,Prataprao More fought A battle against enemy and helped Rajaram I to reach Arni Gad / Arni fort which was located 30 miles away.
On 19th June 1691,the biggest historic battle was fought between the Marathas and the Mughals at Salher.Sandar Manajirao More lead the Mavalas. The Marathas achieved victory in this battle.
The Morè clan claims descent from the Somavanshi king Morè of the Kashmir Region. Some Morè also claims descent from the Mauryan Dynasty of Patana which ruled over the Maurya Empire, located in present day India. The Maurya Empire, and many Morè, boast of rulers like Chandragupta Maurya and Ashoka.
In Pre-Shivaji era, Morè were feudatory of Vijaynagar empire along with other highest maratha clans like Bhoite, Kadam, Salunkhe, Shinde etc.., Maratha Sardars under Sultanates of Deccan; later, when they opposed King Shivaji's Swarajya Kingdom, they were punished. After that, many more joined the Maratha cavalry of King Shivaji and remained active and trusted lieutenants of Maratha Empire.

The Daulatrao More from Mahipatgad was successor of title Chandrarao. He died childless. His wife Manakabai adopted Yashvantrao More from original family stock and kept the title. This Yashvantrao disputed with Chhatrapati Shivaji Bhosale and lost all the glories of More Clan in 1656. The Marathas believed that More family disintegrated into five branches thereof viz. Mores settled at Kandat Khore, Vardhangad, Jawali, Dhamner, Lodhavade, Dharmpuri etc. Chhatrapati Shivaji recruited more at the Fort of Purandar. Later, Many Mores like Sardar Pratprao More, Sardar Mansingh More etc. served the Maratha empire with dignity. Jawali falls under the Phaltan Princely State and was the part of Old Maratha Empire under Royal Naik Nimbalkar.

The main occupation of the villagers in Jawali is in the field of agriculture and the biggest market center is in Phaltan.

Phaltan is the nearest education centre. Many travel to Baramati, Pune, Mumbai, and other centers as per their choice. The village has one high school.
