Joe Carroll (singer)


Joe "Bebop" Carroll was an American jazz vocalist who worked with Dizzy Gillespie between 1949 and 1953. His collaborations with Gillespie include the humorous songs "Swing Low, Sweet Cadillac" and "Oo Bla Dee."

Career

A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was born Joseph Paul Taylor. In 1949 he became a member of the Dizzy Gillespie big band. The band broke up a year later, but Carroll continued in a small group formed by Gillespie. In 1953 he left Gillespie and pursued a solo career, recording albums for Epic in the 1950s.
