Johann Ulrich von Salis-Soglio


Johann Ulrich von Salis-Soglio was a Swiss General who in the year of 1847 commanded the conservative Sonderbund alliance in the Sonderbund War.

Career

He chose a military career at a young age and became a member of the Swiss Army in 1809. Between 1809 and 1839 he served as an officer in foreign service in Bavaria and the Netherlands, rising to the rank of major general. He joined the General Staff of the Swiss Army in the rank of colonel in 1841.
